Question

My mom is suffering from Acute Bronchitis for 4 years now. She loses her breath every time she went to bed and she is very ill. Is this curable? Can you give us necessary drugs for my mom? More power, God bless.

Acute bronchitis, in most cases are caused by viruses that cannot be affected by antibiotics. Using these type of drugs can be expensive when they are usually not needed because of the side effects from antibiotic therapy. At the same time, some of the bacteria can be resistant to the drug which makes it less effective.

It is best to consult the doctor about this matter and find out if it’s necessary to use this. Only your doctor could prescribe the right medication such as these. If he or she gives you the go signal, it should be taken as directed by taking full course of antibiotics.

Drugs for such condition are often given (inhaled beta2-agonists and antibiotics) with a prescription of a doctor only therefore consult a doctor to prescribe such. If the bronchitis is viral, antibiotics would not help. For the meantime, the following suggestions may help:

Relieve cough by taking fluids, avoiding lung irritants and use cough drops.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine to avoid dehydration.

Avoid or stop smoking.

Get enough rest to fight the infection.

Breathe moist air from a hot shower, sink filled with hot water or from a humidifier to keep mucus in airways moist and to cough it out easily.
