Why do people grind their teeth? How can I find out if I grind my teeth? Why is teeth grinding harmful? What can I do to stop grinding my teeth?

I recently went to the dentist for a check up and other work I needed done. He said that I once had a root canal on a certain tooth, which I never even remembered being worked on! It certainly never bothered me even once. But since he's the dentist I believed him and figured I must have just forgotten about it. Anyway, he said I needed a cap on it, so I said fine, and he put a 'temporary cap on it'. Yesterday when I bit into a caramel, it came out. I was shocked to find no tooth underneath. He never told me he was going to extract my tooth and I don't remember him doing so. Isn't a cap supposed to cover a tooth or does a root canal mean the tooth is take out and a cap is in its place?

My dentist recommended replacing my metal dental fillings with a composite material, which would be quite expensive. Is this necessary?

My husband is taking Doxycycline because he has lymes disease. I know you are not supposed to take this medication if you are pregant. We are trying to get pregant now and I was wondering if this would be an issue because the medicine is in his system?

I am 33 years old. I was pregnant last November but miscarried January 9 2009 and was diagnosed with a partial molar pregnancy. Devastating. We got the OK to try again in August and have been trying. My cycles have always been regular. I was on birth control for 10 years and then last year went off birth control to conceive. After my miscarriage my cycles were messed up for a couple months and then I had 4 cycles at 30 days and have had 2 cycles at 28 days. I started using OPT`s and charting, but I have not yet gotten pregnant. This cycle, my BBT is erratic and hard to predict and I have yet to get get a positive on the OTP. I`m confused. Am I not ovulating even though I have no other problems? I thought anovulation meant I`d have erratic periods? I`m incredibly concerned given what we`ve been through with the loss of one child and with getting older. Please help me figure this out.

A few months ago I went to an orthodontist to straighten two teeth. Instead he decided to do what he wanted which was push my arches in and bring all my teeth closer together. I also had a small space on the top side which had been left from tooth that had been abstracted years ago. I did not want it touched. He filled the space in by pushing the teeth next to it close together. My face has changed dramatically and I will not even leave my house because of it. This was not what I paying him to do. Please tell me how and if this work can be reversed. I always had a full face with high cheekbones . Now it looks like I need a face lift. I have no trust to even go back to him. This has left me in such a state of depression. Please let me know what I can do. Can the arches be brought back out? Can all this be reversed. Who are the experts that are willing to take a look at this and be able to tell me what can be done. I need to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

My daughter has an underbite and was told that she needs to get a interceptive functional appliance to help move her teeth forward. My question is this necessary to do at the age of seven? Can it wait a year or will it get worse if it doesn`t get corrected soon?

The teeth in my upper left jaw are shorter than the ones on my right. Also, my left eye sits higher than my right. My jaw is twisting upward to meet my left upper jaw. I think this may be due to inappropriate headgear wear. I am also experiencing TMJ symptoms on my right. Is there anything that can be done to restore the balance to my jaws and overall appearance?

Hi Doctor, My son just had his top braces removed on Monday after wearing them for a little over 2 years. I was shocked to see that where the braces were looked like the normal color of teeth but above the brace line, it looks like bright white build up of some kind. Can you tell me what happened, what may have caused this and how to correct it? Thank you.
